Breast Uplift

One of the most important ways to prepare yourself is to know what is involved in your procedure. In order for you to have a better understanding of the Breast Uplift procedure, please find a virtual 3D animation of your procedure, with full explanations or the process, in our 3-D Library: Breast Uplift.

Breast Uplift
Mastopexy, commonly known as a Breast Lift, is a plastic surgery technique that can tighten sagging skin and help restore a firmer, shapelier breast.

What is involved in a Breast Lift?
Cosmetic surgeons who specialize in breast lift procedures do so by removing loose, excess skin from around the areola, and possibly also from the bottom of the breast, and then tightening the skin and repositioning the nipples. Several different techniques can be used during breast lift surgery depending on the degree of sagging experienced.

Who is suitable for a Breast Lift?

  • Women who have experienced sagging breasts due to childbirth or ageing
  • Women with large areolas

Risk factors and considerations
It is important that you consult with your surgeon before any procedure is undertaken. Know in advance any risks associated with your procedure and take the time with your doctor to assess your condition and treatment needs before you consent to any surgery. Be sure to have your medical and personal health records with you during your consultation and be prepared to ask questions.

While every patient is different and every procedure unique there are some risks associated with a breast lift that you should be aware of and discuss with your surgeon:

  • Noticeable scarring
  • Unevenly aligned nipples
  • Numbness around the nipples
  • Infection or other risks associated with any surgery

Length of the surgery:

  • Typically from one to three hours under local or general sedation.

Length of the hospital stay:

  • One night

Length of the recovery period and post operative care:

  • General soreness around the breasts for two or three days.
  • Removal of gauge bandages with three days.
  • Removal of stitches about two weeks after surgery.

Most women can return to work about two weeks after the surgery although overhead lifting and strenuous movements should be avoided for several weeks to ensure proper healing. It may take several months or more for the breast lift scars to fade.

Remember to consult with your surgeon both before and after your procedure and follow the care as advised by your surgeon and your regular physician.
